The Scarlet Letter Poetry
by: Morgan Robinson
Mid-day an angel was born Pearl was a beauty with spirit un-torn
The gentle and smile which lie upon that face
Was sure to be out of not only love but grace
Her mother, gentle, wishing the best
Held the infant close to her breast
An ‘A’ in scarlet sewn to her chest
Was not there upon her request
Beautifully done in scarlet and gold
Hester made clothing, which she sold
Living as a seamstress for support
She made clothing of all assort
To the minister’s house she did go
Pearl on her side smiling with a glow
Pearl with questions was confused
It was her mother, who she didn’t want to lose
Pearl able to stay asked her mother
Why is that letter such a bother?
Hester smiles and pats Pearl’s little head
For the truth, she knew Pearl would dread
The minister so kind and nice
Was a man growing ill, in need precise
The doctor Chillingworth stepped up to help
Knew how the minister felt
Dimmesdale was his name, so nice and noble
He began to begin to be very immobile
The doctors help was not enough
But Dimmesdale was not so tough
The doctor was a man you see
Who Hester was married, after he took a knee
She said yes without love in her heart
Because of the marriage, the couple was torn apart
The doctor in search of the other man
Made a discovery, then ran
The minister was who hid, behind his charm
Did nothing to the town but harm
Dimmesdale in utter shame
Goes to the scaffold and screams a name
Unforgiving by the one above
He sought himself as unable to love
Hester and pearl walking alone
The minister asked them to join him with a moan
Joining them hand in hand
They looked together across the land
Pearl wonders all-knowing, but confused
She stood with a smile, slightly amused
The ‘A’ for Adultery was revealed
There the sin was locked, and sealed
Sometime later, Pearl grew old
Her beauty grew even more bold
The sun shine she can still play
Her mother however it is afraid
Hester wants to leave with the minister by her side
But the country he does not want to divide
He makes a deal to leave
In the early mornings they will set out to sea
The final morning the minister reveals
An ‘A’ on his chest which he had concealed
Pearl with love in hope in her eyes
Watches her parents say their good-byes
They leave the country and set sea
To their new future, what will it be?
Years later Pearl has grown mature
She then meets a man and marries for sure
Hester returns to Boston, Scarlet Letter in hand
She is ready to return to the land
Hester places the letter back on her breast
The next day she did not wake from her rest
Buried next to the man who she shared a sin
They lie together within
A stone marking the death of the two
Had an ‘A’ placed on it
And together they stood in a place where the wind blew
